The Story of Tom, Dick & Harry - adapted from a Koren Publication
Three 7-year old friends Tom, Dick & Harry are playing on their skateboards in Tom's driveway .. They're doing all sorts of tricks imagining they are Tony Hawks!
What happened to Tom?
Whilst attempting a spectacular manoeuvre young Tom flipped and fell to the ground. He shrugged off his hurt and tried the move again. Unknown to, Tom he just misaligned a vertebra between his shoulder blades, (5 th thoracic) interfering with a nerve that transmits mental impulses to his stomach.
This is called a SUBLUXATION. Neither Tom, nor his parents have heard of a subluxation, and perhaps they never will.
A few days later Tom's complaining to his mother about a stomach ache and he's pale. This stomach may last a few days or even weeks; and since Tom's a strong growing boy it may go away and not return for several months. Tom's mother may just overlook it, "Kid's are always coming down with this and that, besides he's usually better the next day".
As tom begins to grow up he finds certain 'foods don't agree with him'. He cannot eat stone fruit, spicey foods or pizza. "I like them, but they don't like me". Soon his occasional stomach aches turn him to over-the-counter drugs for relief. He relies on Mylanta, Gaviscon and Alka-Setzer to get through his day.
Tom spells relief Q-U-I-C-K-E-Z-E. The years pass and he enters middle-age, he now sees his GP for more powerful drugs..sure they give relief but they have greater 'side-effects'.
Tom's troubles continue to worsen and is diagnosed with an ulcer, and after all work is pretty hectic; or so the doctor tells him. In time he requires surgery and has to 'watch what he eats' for the rest of his life - or else!
Is Tom's story unique?? Unfortunately No. You may know a Tom, or you may even be Tom. If it isn't stomach trouble, it's asthma, or bronchitis, arthritis, headaches, constipation or fatigue or backaches or another of the hundreds of 'medical' conditions out there. The world is full of Toms who live on medications, resigned to a life of aches and pains, sickness and disease, adverse reactions and side effects.
They may never know a truly healthy day for the rest of their lives and maybe haven't since a slip, fall or accident as an infant, toddler or young child.
What happened to Dick?
Our next dare-devil is Dick .. He too crashes performing a Tony Hawks trick. He dusts himself off and checks his clothes are not torn; he doesn't tell his mum because she'll "Kill Me!!" Like Tom, Dick has just subluxated his 5 th Thoracic vertebra interfering with the nerve to his stomach.
Dick doesn't know he has a subluxation but in time develops stomach-ache. As years go by he too finds some foods don't agree with him, and begins the merry-go-round of pain-relieving medications.
One day a friend says to him, "you know Dickie, with all your stomach troubles you need to see a chiropractor". "A chiropractor?" says Dick, "Aren't they for sore backs?"
Having nothing to lose Dick visits a chiropractor and asks, "Can you fix me?" "Chiropractors do not treat diseases, in fact we don't treat anything. We locate and set about correcting the Vertebral Subluxations causing the nerve interference. When we do this the inborn (innate) healing powers of the body begin the healing process. The longer a misalignment has been present the greater the task ahead of us. You and I work together. Three things are needed:
Repetition, (2.) Effort and, (3.) Time for the body to heal."
"After the subluxations are corrected, and nerve function restored, the body is better able to heal itself".
The chiropractor performs a detailed consultation and thorough examination - locating the T5 subluxation - the one created in the fall 30 years earlier skateboarding. The chiropractor performs an adjustment, beginning the healing process.
Over the coming weeks & months Dick keeps up his chiropractic adjustments, the nerve function regenerates and bit by bit re-builds health to the withered and sick tissues of the stomach. Quickeze and Enos become a thing of the past.
Dick appreciates the value of chiropractic and opts for a lifetime of chiropractic wellness care. Dick has eluded Tom's fate.
What happened to Harry?
Little Harry's story is totally different to his friends. He too tries an aerial trick on his skateboard and comes off second best. The difference is Harry gets a regular chiropractic Family check-up. Everybody goes - it's a family affair - true health insurance, keeping their bodies free from vertebral subluxations that can disrupt the flow of messages and energy from the brain to the body.
"After all," says Harry's mum, "we go to the dentist to have our teeth checked: why not go to the chiropractor to have our spines checked for subluxation?"
"Since we've been getting chiropractic care," says Harry's father, "our whole family's health has taken a turn for the better. We have more energy, sleep better, have fewer health concerns and generally feel better. My wife doesn't get headaches like she used to and my daughter no longer gets tonsillitis like she used to. Our Harry & Millie do not get colds or miss school and their attention spans have improved."
The chiropractor checks Harry and finds the subluxation between the shoulder blades. "What happened here Harry, have a buster?"
The chiropractor gently adjusts Harry's spine, correcting the subluxation.
Harry will never know how truly lucky he is!!
